I remember sitting in my NOLS Wilderness First Responder Class silently hoping that I’d never encounter or have a dislocation in the backcountry. I remember talking about applying gentle traction to realign bones and the pain the patient would endure from such an injury. It seemed like it would not be fun. At all.
When Ruth sent me this story about a trip when just about everything went wrong I knew that first of all, she’s one tough lady (check out the video to see why) and I also knew that it was a good reminder to brush up on our first-aid skills because well, you just never know when someone you’re hiking with will need help or when you’ll encounter a stranger on the trail who needs your help.
Thanks so much for sharing this experience with us, Ruth.
What do you think about the video? Have you ever had something like this happen to you in the backcountry?
