Mara here. Are you an avid coffee drinker? I sure am. One of the problems I have in the backcountry is finding good coffee that easy to make and creates minimum mess. Ambassador and thru-hiker Elsye, trail name chardonnay, had the opportunity to review One Fresh Cup. Below are her thoughts.
When I’m thru hiking, the first thing I do in the morning is have a cup of coffee. There’s something about a cup of coffee and watching the sunrise from your tent.
I was given the opportunity to try out some coffee from One Fresh Cup. I couldn’t wait to try them as I would be able to see if there was a big improvement on taste when compared to the instant coffee that I usually buy.
The blends I received were Giyo Sumatra, Sidamo Ethiopian, Cerrado Brazilian, French Roast and Columbian Decaffeinated – 10 coffee bags (two of each) in the variety pack. This mobile drip coffee allows you to have a great cup of coffee at home or on the go, wherever there is hot water.
I brewed up a cup after receiving the box at home and again day hiking, I have to say I was impressed, this is deliciously strong coffee! My favorite was the French Roast!!
Each filter has hangers that secure to your cup. You just pour hot water over a paper filter containing ground coffee beans, adjusting volume per your taste. It’s a convenient way of enjoying filter coffee in the outdoors without having to deal with washing anything more than a mug and spoon afterwards.
I quite like the taste of instant coffee so the brewing process of One Fresh Cup feels like an indulgence to me. As a backpacker, I can’t see myself ordering this on the regular as it is rather expensive at $15.00 a box and packing out the used filters could get messy.
For coffee connoisseurs who dislike the taste of instant, but desire tasty coffee without the cleanup, this is for you. The pour over method produces a quality cup of coffee, one cup at a time.
If you are looking to impress your friends whip these out at your next camp out! There’s nothing like a good cup of coffee after you climb out of your tent. These individual servings are just the ticket!
