Have you ever been stuck in a storm, not just a light rain, but a storm, and needed to cook your dinner? Hike Like A Woman’s Magazine Editor Amanda “Lucy” Haskins a.k.a Wonder Woman really put the UCO Stormproof Sweetfire Strikeable Fire Starter to the test. Read below to see how she liked it.
I REALLY got to put the “stormproof” part of these fire starters to the test on my vacation this year. Turns out we decided to go camping in Boone, North Carolina right as a major storm system was slamming the east coast. Therefore, it rained the entire trip…except for 2 hours! Ha ha!
The description from the website states “This is a new STORMPROOF version of the popular award winning Sweetfire Strikeable Fire Starter. Stormproof means that it will relight after being submerged in water. The advantage of the sweetfire over a normal waterproof or stormproof match is that it includes tinder in the ‘point’. Light the ‘point’ just like a match and it will burn for 7 minutes to help you start a fire like a boss. Go prepared!”
During the rainstorms it actually only stayed lit for about 15 seconds causing us to have to use multiples plus other fire starters to get our fire going. During perfect weather though, it stayed lit over 60 seconds and the entire stick burned. So, for dry weather it is a great fire starter! It is easy to light, with the striker being on the side of the box. And the fire starter itself having a strikeable tip.
The price is reasonable at $9.99 for 20 fire starters. The box also includes extra strikers in case the box itself becomes wet.
• Made from sugarcane waste — Bagasse is a fibrous sugarcane by-product and is used around the world as a renewable biofuel.
• 20 individual ‘Points’ conveniently connected & ready to break-off and use.
• Each Point burns for 7 minutes each.
• Strikable tip, can be used with striker on box, eliminating need for matches.
• Infused with vegetable wax, UCO Sweetfire is good for the planet and great for every adventure.
Would I buy more? Yes, and I actually have looked for them at my local outdoor stores to no avail. And the website says it is out of stock but hopefully they will be back in stock soon.
