I’m stepping on my soapbox today.
Here’s the truth.
I’m tired of working my ass off.
I’m tired of trying to live up to everyone else’s expectations of who I’m supposed to be and what I’m supposed to do.
I’m tired of owning a small business, of paying rent and payroll on the 1st of the month and realizing that there’s nothing left for me to take home to my family or reinvest back into the shop.
I’m tired of having an endless “to do” list.
I’m tired of dealing with internet trolls who are just assholes.
I’m tired of juggling a million different tasks.
I’m tired of giving to everyone else before I give to myself.
I’m tired of running a race and feeling like I’m always coming in last place.
It makes sense, this is a season of life when I’m supposed to be tired…coming off of a busy summer season at the shop and guiding trips.
But I don’t want to be this busy.
I don’t want to be tired.
I know that I can’t be the only woman out there who is tired.
Can I get an “amen” if you’re tired too?
So what do we do?
What do we do when we’re exhausted?
What do we do when we’re burned out and stressed out?
Do we need a day off of work, a yoga class or a massage?
Is that enough or is it simply a bandaid when we need a tourniquet.
I love this Brene Brown quote:
“‘Crazy-busy’ is a great armor, it’s a great way for numbing. What a lot of us do is that we stay so busy, and so out in front of our life, that the truth of how we’re feeling and what we really need can’t catch up with us.”
I’m ready to catch up with me.
Are you ready to catch up with you?
It’s a new month.
This month I’m focusing on taking off my armor.
I’m going to say “no” to people and things who take my time and energy.
I’m going to say “yes” to reading stories with my kids, to a date night with my husband, to sleeping in past 5 am.
Hell, I might even close my shop on a random Tuesday at the risk of losing sales and making customers annoyed just so I can take a hike. Alone. In the wilderness.
Will you join me this month and focus on who really matters in this world? On YOU?
We all need it.
We all need a break.
We all need rest.
