Hello, hello!

It’s 2020.

Say what?

If you tuned in last week you noticed that we chatted a little bit about why I’m replacing goals with habits this year.

But that doesn’t mean that I’ve completely abandoned all structure in my life.

Although that does sound appealing…

No, I wanted to pop in with a quick update about what you can expect from us here at Hike Like A Woman headquarters in 2020…just in case you don’t like surprises or perhaps you want to be prepared.

The big news.

No, this is not a pregnancy announcement.

Sorry Mom.

First. We have 50 AMAZING Hike Like A Woman Ambassadors who volunteer their time behind-the-scenes to keep our organization functioning and fun. We love this crew but I haven’t done a good job of onboarding our current class of Ambassadors and giving them chances to be involved so we’ve decided that we will not be adding any more Ambassadors to our team in 2020. I know this might be bad news if you’ve been patiently waiting for us to open up our application period again. But, rest assured that there will be other ways to become part of our team coming at you in the future.

Next. Our biggest focus for 2020 is going to be our LIVE weekly show, Hike Like A Woman #Unfiltered. Starting next Tuesday you’ll be able to find us on YouTube and Facebook at 6pm mountain every.single.week. We have awesome shows lined up with authors, guides, hikers, and every day women ready to share their stories with you. Do you want to share your story? Drop a line to hikelikeawoman@gmail.com with #unfiltered in the subject line.

But wait…there’s more! We love our online community but we love meeting you more in person. So far we have 2 retreats, 5 guided backpacking trips, and 1 weekend backpacking skills workshop on the books for 2020. And one GIGANTIC Hike Like A Woman conference currently being planned for the winter of 2021. Our schedule with retreats, trips, and workshops is currently #1 on my “to do” list (after fixing dinner, because….priorities?). Stay tuned, I hope to have everything locked in by next week so you can start planning now to join us on a super fun adventure.

A picture from one of last summer’s super fun adventures. Hello double chin, my old friend.

Finally. As HLAW grows and as the owner of a ski shop in Southeastern Wyoming I’ve been getting a ton of questions lately about how to “break in” to the outdoor industry. What is this elusive “industry” that everyone with four puffy jackets and two pairs of Chacos claims to be part of? How do you get a job in “the industry?”

(hint you always have to say “the industry” in hushed tones so you really feel like you’re part of the crowd of cool kids with lots of chacos)

Well, I’m going to be answering your questions about the outdoor industry right here in a new blog section that we’re going to call “the industry” ~ and hopefully we’ll create a rad place for lady adventurers to turn their passion into careers. Sound good? (p.s. if you’re in “the industry” we gotta chat, hook me up with a note about what you do and why and we’ll either interview you for the blog or on #unfiltered — hikelikeawoman@gmail.com)

If “the industry” does not approve of unicorn sweaters then it’s certain an industry that I don’t want to be part of 😉

We hope that you’ll keep hanging out with us in 2020. It’s gonna be a fun one.

Cheers,

  1. I’m excited to see what is to come and what trips you have planned would love to come from home in Moncton NB Canada,
Bring on the fun 🙂 Keep up the good work you are all my Heros’s……

  2. Excited to be part of Hike Like a Woman here in Central Florida with Crystal Osborn leading us into temptation…I mean into the trails. Love your sense of humor Rebecca.

    • We’ll try, unfortunately we’re growing slowly and don’t have permits or guides in those areas yet….but we’ll see what the future brings 🙂

  3. Do you have any meetups/adventures/chapters in Utah? Close to Ogden? (I mean if I’d be accepted, I’d could drive to Laramie with enough notice) Also how do I find out about/sign up for the retreats and backpacking trips?

    • Not yet! But join us on Mighty Networks, we might have some Ogden Utah hikers there. PS I skied Snow Basin last month and absolutely fell in LOVE with the Ogden area. So beautiful 🙂 ~Rebecca
