Name: Anna Raad
Hometown: Kaprun, Austria
Occupation: Photographer & Writer
Favorite place to hike: Austrian Alps
What’s one book you’d recommend to a friend and why: Wild – Cheryl Strayed. This book was an eye-opener for me. It might sound weird, but where I live the concept of a thru-hike just didn’t exist. This was the first time I read about the PCT. I knew right then and there that I wanted to do something like that. It motivated me to change my life completely.
What’s your favorite thing to cook for dinner: I don’t have one favorite, I have many! But my favorite lazy food is pesto and parmesan spaghetti.
What’s your favorite quote: “Life is an adventure, take risks!”
If you could hike with anyone, dead or alive who would be and why: To be honest, I would prefer to hike alone. I am an introvert and most happy in my own company. It’s just really nice to be able to do whatever whenever without having to consult with another human being. I love the feeling of being one with nature and having a place all to myself.
What the one piece of gear that always has a place in your backpack: My camera! I’m a photographer, so everywhere I go I take my camera with me.
If you could drop what you’re doing right now and had unlimited funds what’s the one place you’d go hiking: I’d hop on a plane and fly somewhere I haven’t been before. I like to explore new places and I have loads of hiking destinations on my bucket list. I just watched a documentary about the island La Réunion which blew me away. I definitely want to go there.
