Amy Haney

Name: Amy Haney

Hometown: Oliver Springs, TN

Occupation: Clerical Administration and waitress

Favorite place to hike: GSMNP, Big South Fork, any place I can escape the big city!

What’s one book you’d recommend to a friend and why: The Red Tent by Anita Diamant. This’s is one of my favorite books by far. It is biblical historical fiction. The story of Dinah, daughter of Jacob and sister of Joseph told from a women’s point of view. A beautiful story of women hood, mothering and raising children.

What’s your favorite thing to cook for dinner: I hate to cook basically because I live with the pickiest people on earth. So picky that I recently told my husband he had better hope that it’s a lady who drives the Swanson truck because that was the only affair I would tolerate. And, that he better order 32 meals from them just I case he didn’t like one he chose.  That being said, I am diabetic and have some real food allergies, a good crowd pleaser is  my chili. Everyone raves about it and I load it up with tons of healthy foods that they don’t know about!

What’s your favorite quote: “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalms 46:10 KJV

I am a high school teacher, wife, mother, 4-h volunteer and like anyone else I let life get me too busy. This reminds me to be still, stop, listen, reflect, you are a child of the most high, of God! He places that comma there to pause us and have us focus on what’s next, know that I am God! That is a present, a past, and future tense all in one. When my life gets crazy, and it usually is, this is where I go. This is also on my medic alert bracelet so that I can look down and be reminded at any time.

If you could hike with anyone, dead or alive who would be and why: I am open for adventure and part of that is meeting new people. I have a bestie who I often hike with. She is the yin to my yang! We are like sister and can finish each other’s thoughts! So much fun with her. I love hiking with kids. I am a co-sponsor of our schools hiking club. I love watching these kids grow and experience new places and make lasting memories. Many do them have never been hiking before. So really it doesn’t matter, I will talk your ear off until you tell me to shut up.

What the one piece of gear that always has a place in your backpack: First aid kit. I never travel anywhere without one. It is kind of an obsession of mine. I love being prepared and I love gear that makes that possible. Many a time I have found that kit to be a lifesaver. It is my goal to have everything I would need I case an emergency arises. I have a lot to learn I am sure.

If you could drop what you’re doing right now and had unlimited funds what’s the one place you’d go hiking: I wanna go to Yellowstone.

Is there anything else you’d like to add: This is a dream come true! I have always wanted to be a products tester, write reviews, and be a part of a group of women who are likeminded! I am very excited and look forward to this adventure!
